Calling All FPS Gaming Giants

If you play fast-paced multiplayer FPS games—Call of Duty, Valorant, Apex Legends, Counter-Strike, or anything where a split-second reaction decides whether you win the fight or get sent back to the spawn screen—input lag is one of the most important numbers on your setup.

In plain English, input lag is the delay between the moment you see something on the screen and the moment you react and press a button or move your mouse, coupled with the moment that the action you pressed actually appears on the screen. A high-lag TV makes your character feel sluggish and slow to react.

This matters most in gun battles where you need to cut down on your reaction time. A low-lag TV makes the game feel tight, immediate, and connected to your hands. The difference is the same as driving a car with responsive steering versus one that feels like the wheels are delayed.

The Samsung S95H (2026 flagship QD-OLED) currently holds the record for the lowest input lag they’ve measured on any TV — specifically 9.2 ms at 4K60 and 4.8 ms at 1080p120. They even gave it their first Lab Award for lowest input lag.

Right now it sits at the top for measured responsiveness among current TVs. Independent tests have measured it at roughly 4.8–9.7 milliseconds depending on the signal. That kind of speed is why serious gamers hunt for it.

HDMI 2.1 Is Not Optional

To actually unlock those low lag numbers at high resolutions and high frame rates (4K 120 Hz or higher), you need true HDMI 2.1. Older HDMI 2.0 cables and ports simply cannot carry the full bandwidth required. Using a cheap or poorly made cable can force the signal down to lower bandwidth modes, which often increases lag or disables features like Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM).

If you also stream or record your gameplay, the same rule applies to capture cards. An HDMI 2.1 capture card is required if you want to pass the full high-bandwidth signal through to the TV without adding extra lag or forcing a resolution/refresh-rate compromise. A older 2.0 capture card will bottleneck the entire chain.

Black Friday vs Student Discount Reality

Black Friday is usually the big hope for TV shoppers. There is a realistic chance the S95H will see meaningful discounts in late November, as flagship OLEDs almost always do. However, Samsung’s student (and educator) discounts are frequently better than the public Black Friday price—sometimes by a noticeable margin.

Important catch: Samsung almost never lets you stack both. You typically get either the education pricing or the seasonal sale price, not both at the same time. If you qualify for the student/educator program, it is usually smarter to lock that in rather than wait and hope Black Friday beats it.

Who This Actually Matters To

Casual players who mostly play single-player or slower games will never notice a few milliseconds. Competitive multiplayer FPS players will. When everyone else is on a low-lag setup and you are not, you are fighting with a slight handicap on every engagement. The S95H combined with proper HDMI 2.1 cables (and a 2.1 capture card if you need one) is currently one of the cleanest ways to remove that handicap on a big-screen TV.
