DISCLAIMER: This article is an exploration of ancient religious texts, visions, and theological questions regarding God's existence. The views and interpretations presented are philosophical and faith-based. The linked YouTube videos contain claims (such as a literal firmament or flat Earth) that are not supported by mainstream science, peer-reviewed research, or empirical evidence. Who Is God and What Proof Do We Have?

Is God, who is called El Elyon (Most High), El Shaddai (Almighty), Elohim (Creator), or the Creator on the Most High actually real? Or are the claims of His existence, His throne, His angels, and a structured cosmos with waters above and below simply products of ancient human imagination? Scriptures have been passed down for centuries that describe God, the Heavens, the angels and even hell in texts like the Bible and uncanonized scripture such as the Book of Enoch and the Ascension of Isaiah.

These documents are filled with breathtaking visions: a multi-layered firmament (expanse) holding back celestial waters, Enoch touring the edges of creation and witnessing a prison for rebellious angels, Isaiah watching the Son of God disguise Himself as a lesser angel to slip through heavenly gates undetected. They paint God as a glorious, untouchable King on a flaming throne, surrounded by myriads of angels in perfect order. Yet outside these writings—and the faith traditions built on them—there is no independent, verifiable proof from science, archaeology, or observable reality. No mainstream lab test confirms a solid dome above us, no satellite photo shows waters encircling the earth, and no historical record outside religious circles documents these exact events.

But, with that said:

However, these stories from scripture stand as the primary "evidence" believers point to. Below, we lay them out plainly, exactly as the texts describe them, alongside the biblical passages that form their foundation. This is what we have to go on.

Enoch's Visions: The Firmament, Waters, Throne of God, and the Prison of Fallen Angels

In the Book of Enoch, the prophet Enoch is taken on guided tours of the cosmos by angels. He describes a flat, founded earth supported by winds and pillars, topped by a firmament—a solid vault or dome-like expanse that separates and holds back waters. This echoes but expands Genesis. Enoch does not explicitly number seven layers in the core sections, but his journeys imply structured heavenly realms with gates, storehouses, and escalating glory.

Enoch sees the corner-stone of the earth and the four winds which bear the earth and the firmament of the heaven. The winds stretch out the vaults of heaven like pillars holding everything in place. At the end of the earth stands the firmament of heaven above. Beyond a great abyss lies a desolate place with no firmament of the heaven above, and no firmly founded earth beneath it: there was no water upon it, and no birds, but it was a waste and horrible place. This is the prison for the stars and the host of heaven—the fallen angels (called Watchers) who rebelled.

He sees seven stars like great burning mountains bound together, blazing with fire. An angel explains: This place is the end of heaven and earth: this has become a prison for the stars and the host of heaven. This place is the prison of the angels, and here they will be imprisoned for ever. These angels are chained in darkness and chaos until final judgment—no escape, no light, just eternal confinement in a fiery, formless void.

Then comes the climax: Enoch's vision of God's throne. He is brought into a heavenly house of crystal-like ice and fire. Inside a second, greater house:

I looked and saw therein a lofty throne: its appearance was as crystal, and the wheels thereof as the shining sun, and there was the vision of cherubim. And from underneath the throne came streams of flaming fire so that I could not look thereon. And the Great Glory sat thereon, and His raiment shone more brightly than the sun and was whiter than any snow.

None of the angels could enter and could behold His face by reason of the magnificence and glory and no flesh could behold Him. The flaming fire was round about Him, and a great fire stood before Him, and none around could draw nigh Him: ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him, yet He needed no counselor.

God appears as the Great Glory—indescribably radiant, too holy for even angels to look upon directly. Cherubim (winged, angelic beings) surround the throne. Rivers of fire flow from beneath it. Myriads of angels stand in attendance, but God requires no advice; He is utterly sovereign.

The Ascension of Isaiah: The Son of God Disguised as an Angel Passing Through Heavenly Gates

This early Christian apocryphal text describes the prophet Isaiah's spirit being lifted by a glorious angel through seven successive heavens. Each level grows brighter, with more glorious angels on thrones, singing praise. Isaiah's own form transforms to match each heaven's glory so he blends in. In the seventh heaven, he sees the Father, the Beloved (the Son of God, later called Yahusha), and the angel of the Holy Spirit in overwhelming light.

While there, Isaiah watches the Father command the Beloved to descend for humanity's redemption. To avoid detection by the lower powers (angels and demons ruling the firmament and earth, who would block or attack a being from the highest heaven), the Son must go incognito. The exact command:

Go out and descend through all the heavens. You shall descend through the firmament and through that world as far as the angel who is in Sheol, but you shall not go as far as Perdition. And you will become like unto the likeness of all who are in the five heavens. And you will be careful to become like the form of the angels of the firmament and the angels also who are in Sheol. And none of the angels of that world shall know that Thou art with Me of the seven heavens and of their angels.

As the Son descends level by level, He transforms His appearance to look exactly like the lesser angels there—so they do not praise or suspect Him. In the fifth heaven: He made Himself like unto the form of the angels there, and they did not praise Him; for His form was like unto theirs. The same happens in the fourth, third, second, and first heavens, and finally the firmament (the lowest realm of air and battling demons). Each realm has guarded gates where angels demand a secret password. The Son gives the correct one each time to pass undetected.

In the chaotic firmament, ruled by Satan (Sammael) and warring angels, the disguise works perfectly amid the envy and fighting. He is born as a baby on earth, lives, is crucified not knowing who He is, rises, and ascends back up—now without disguise, openly worshiped as the lower angels realize too late who He was. Isaiah's spirit is then returned to earth by the guiding angel.

What We Have to Go On: The Biblical Scriptures Describing God, the Firmament, Theophanies, and Angels

These apocryphal expansions build directly on the Bible. Here is the scriptural foundation—major passages describing God, His names, His appearances (theophanies), the firmament, and angels. These are the texts believers return to as proof of God's reality.

The Firmament and Waters

  • Genesis 1:6-8: And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven.
  • Psalm 148:4: Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens.
  • Job 37:18: Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

God's Names and Attributes

  • Elohim (Creator): Genesis 1:1—In the beginning God [Elohim] created the heaven and the earth.
  • El Elyon (Most High): Genesis 14:18-22 (Melchizedek blesses Abraham by El Elyon, possessor of heaven and earth).
  • El Shaddai (Almighty): Genesis 17:1—I am the Almighty God [El Shaddai]; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
  • Yahweh (I AM): Exodus 3:14—I AM THAT I AM... Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
  • Full self-description: Exodus 34:6-7—The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty.

Theophanies—Direct Appearances of God

  • Genesis 18:1-33: The Lord appears to Abraham as three men by the oaks of Mamre; Abraham feeds them, and the Lord speaks face-to-face about Sodom.
  • Exodus 3:2-6 (burning bush to Moses): The angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush... God called unto him out of the midst of the bush... I am the God of thy father...
  • Exodus 24:9-11: Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone... also they saw God, and did eat and drink.
  • Exodus 33:18-23 (to Moses): Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. But He allows Moses to see His back parts while passing by in glory.
  • Isaiah 6:1-8: In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up... Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings... Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts.
  • Ezekiel 1:4-28: A whirlwind, cloud, fire; four living creatures; wheels within wheels; a firmament the colour of the terrible crystal... the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it... This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord.
  • Daniel 7:9-10 (Ancient of Days): I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow... his throne was like the fiery flame... A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.

Angels in Scripture

  • Genesis 3:24 (cherubim with flaming sword).
  • Isaiah 6 (seraphim crying holy).
  • Psalm 68:17; Hebrews 12:22 (innumerable angels).
  • Revelation 5:11 (ten thousand times ten thousand).

New Testament Ties

  • John 1:1,14: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word was made flesh.
  • Colossians 1:15-17: The Messiah is the image of the invisible God... by him were all things created.
  • Revelation 4:2-11: Throne in heaven... Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty.

These passages, plus the apocryphal visions they inspired, are what believers have. They describe a personal, glorious God who reveals Himself through creation, prophets, and ultimately Yahusha—demanding faith, not laboratory proof. Whether they convince you of His reality or remain powerful ancient literature is the question each person must answer. Based on scripture and my own spiritual experiences, I personally believe He exists. But, what about you… do you have proof El Elyon is real?
