Act 1: The Underground Swing
Sheriff Harlan is driving his cruiser while his dashboard laptop is on a WhatsApp video chat.
SHADOWY FIGURE

(voice altered) You got the ping. You know the play. Roll in before they make any arrests. Claim the jurisdiction, take everything—the bricks, the girl’s statement, the photos, the body-cam cards if you can get ‘em. Make the chain of custody look textbook… then just, lose a few pieces before the feds come-a-knocking.

SHERIFF HARLAN

You’re really going this hard just to keep one sergeant from climbing the ladder?

SHADOWY FIGURE

Look, Harl… King ain’t just any old sergeant climbing the ladder. He’s the best. His clearance rate is skyrocketing, deputies respect him, streets fear him. If he runs for Sheriff next cycle, he wins in a landslide and, whoops, there goes your benefits and all that legality you hold. I don't want him digging and finding that insurance policy, the second set of books, the houses. If he wins, I can't be in the shadows, pulling the strings. You see?

Sheriff Harlan gets a notification and opens it—app payment notifications are going nuts. He mutes the notifications volume.
SHERIFF HARLAN

Alright, I get it. Tell this genius accountant to stop timing it like this. It's got my phone going off like it's a damn slot machine.

SHADOWY FIGURE

Do this by the book. Kali's going to try and press you. And tell your wife I said, "hey."

Act 2: Hijack Highway
Highway shoulder. Cruiser lights, Tahoe SWAT cruiser. Kali, Cris, and Greg are finishing evidence logs when Sheriff Rod Harlan’s convoy rolls up hard—no warning, lights blazing. His sirens give a quick whooping trill. Deputies unload in a hurry and swarm the scene like bees, fresh tape already in hand, flatbed truck rapidly pulling in and backing up to the pulled over Dodge Charger.
GREG

This looks rehearsed.

KALI KING

What the hell? Look at this mother f*cker.

CRIS SWOOP

He’s bagging our evidence up before we even sign off.

A deputy drops a small evidence bag. Corner of a kilo brick peeks out, torn packaging. Kali’s body cam catches it clear. A different deputy scoops it up and looks around.
SHERIFF HARLAN

(walking up, all southern charm) Sergeant King. Officer Swoop. Damn fine stop. We’ll relieve you now. County line’s ours just by a hair. Y’all head on back and get some coffee, you earned it.

KALI KING

How you knew exactly where to stage, Rod? It's almost as if you had a little bird just… whispering the coordinates in your ear before we were even done here.

SHERIFF ROD HARLAN

(shrugs, smiling) God provides, son. But, do have safe travels on your way out.

Act 3: The Truth Clicks
Inside the cruiser, heading back to the city. Greg is driving, eyes locked on the road. Cris rewinds body cam on his phone. Kali is in the back, Niner is in his kennel.
CRIS SWOOP

County unit was rolling before our traffic hit the log. Only people with real-time access were dispatch… and the command staff.

GREG

What if it was to keep Kali from getting close to the Sheriff’s star.

KALI KING

Well, I am a threat.

Niner groans.
KALI KING

What, you got something to say too? Traitor.

GREG

He's just mad you found the dope before he did.

Niner pants with his tongue out and whimpers. Kali pets Niner through the kennel wire.
CRIS SWOOP

What should we do?

KALI KING

(quiet smirk) We catch them doing it again.
